Inspiration
I'm a freshman. When I first came to BC last semester, I was very lost with the cryptic information on BC UIS and I couldn't find my classrooms since the buildings are not all labelled on google map.
What it does
This app lets the user very easily input classes and schedule (as it is shown on BC UIS, e.g. m w f 9 30*), and it will store the information and show them the locations on a map. The app also includes suggestion for lunch location based on preferred lunch time, preferred amount of time to eat lunch, courses before and after and the amount of time it takes to walk that distance. In addition, the app allows the user to easily send emails to professors when they want to skip a certain class.
How we built it
java code, android studio, very carefully
Challenges we ran into
lots... algorithm for generating lunch suggestion; walking time between buildings; avoid the convoluted reactive programming style adopted by android studio coming up with good robust data structure; interfacing between code created by different people;
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overcoming all of aforementioned
What we learned
lots
What's next for don't skip class
including pathing UI and notification (very hard reactive bs)
