Inspiration
I did a project last year for Rich with the colorimeter, I wanted to try something different but, when one of the options was marketing his grease thief idea, I had previous knowledge as did Alyssa and we wanted to pitch it to the navy, also, I found out they're already pitching it at the army so why not hit the navy as well.
What it does
highlights marketing ideas to pitch the grease thief as a testing tool for the navy to build more reliability and accountability into their already extensive maintenance program but in a direction they don't currently have any testing for. They test oil as of right now but not grease, and if grease thief can increase sailor accountability with their maintenance, prevent casualties while at sea, or improve operation of equipment I don't see a down side to that.
How we built it
worked with powerpoint to make our slide show and hp photo create to make a pamphlet
Challenges we ran into
finding adequate pictures to use, some of our pictures are placeholders to be replaced later if the idea is accepted with more detailed photos or more accurate/detailed from actual navy equipment
Accomplishments that we're proud of
having the desire to help improve the navy even though we aren't in it any more because we were proud of our time there, and the opportunity to help Rich again after a successful project last year
What we learned
we had to think about different systems that used grease that would benefit from the grease thief and its testing potentials, then think outside our own knowledge, make contact with old friends to get more potential uses and implement them here. we also had to do research on the testing procedures themselves to verify that they would be useful to the navy
What's next for DoN Marketing Idea
better pictures, make contact with the right people to pitch to and do some demonstrations and show results of the potential uses for the grease thief and how it can improve the standards the navy holds for its ships' operational readiness
