Inspiration
Our idea is to provide a sensor based Domestic waste system which separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes using IR sensors, M18 Capacitance sensors and NIR spectroscopy sensors. By combining these sensors, the accuracy of waste separation can be improved. This reduces the landfills and manual waste separation by the municipal workers.
What it does
Clean & Green Technology Infrared (IR) sensors Servo motor to control the lid M18 Capacitance sensors NIR spectroscopy sensors Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste containers
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
IR sensors can be used to identify the composition of waste materials by measuring the wavelengths of reflected or emitted infrared radiation. Organic materials like food waste often have distinct IR signatures compared to non-biodegradable materials like plastic or metal. To automate waste disposal, we can use Arduino Uno with the motor controller which can be employed to open and close lids or move bins. Depending on which IR sensor detects waste, it will open the corresponding lid while closing the other. If neither sensor detects waste, both lids will remain closed. M18 capacitance sensors and NIR sensors are used here to identify the chemical composition of material like papers and plastics and detect the organic matter such as biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable waste.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Efficient Waste Collection: Waste collection services optimize their routes, ensuring that bins are only emptied when they are full, reducing unnecessary trips and saving time and resources. Environmental Benefits: Fewer collection trips mean reduced carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management process. Reduced Overflow and Litter: Sensors can trigger alerts when waste bins are nearing capacity, reducing the likelihood of overflow and litter in public spaces, which can be unsightly and unhygienic. Minimized Human Error: Automation through sensors and Arduino Uno reduces the potential for human error in waste collection, ensuring bins are emptied at the right time.
