Inspiration
Our inspiration for Minecraft Plugins stemmed from our friend and mentor Elliot Vince. Last summer, Elliot ran a summer camp that introduced programming to younger kids through Minecraft.
What it does
The Domain Expansion spawns a detailed structure in the game including flashy particle effects and signature music.
How we built it
We coded the entire project in Java using the Spigot/Bukkit API. We used Code With Me on Intellij to work on the project together. The entire music class was created using Claude AI. Everything else was made using prior knowledge, Youtube tutorials, and the Spigot docs.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was setting up the IDE and Spigot/Bukkit server. We did not come prepared to do anything Minecraft related and had to install the game, set up a server, and work together in an IDE that was new to both of us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The detailed structure was created very efficiently. The structure itself includes many uniquely placed blocks. Several nested loops were used to make the process much simpler. We are very proud of how far our project came considering we came into this competition without a plan.
What we learned
MasseyHacks taught us that networking is very important for a programmer. We attended a couple of workshops that introduced us to new skills and branches of programming. If we could start all over again, we would make sure everything was set up before we arrive so that we could use as much time as possible coding.
What's next for Domain Expansion Minecraft Plugin
We probably won't continue with this specific plugin, but we will definitely explore new ways to create Minecraft plugins.
