Dolphins Connect

Inspiration

Inspired by CORTIS's PYPD app and its goal of encouraging people to be more present, we wanted to bring that same concept into the world of live sports. At sporting events, fans often find themselves glued to their phones instead of experiencing the atmosphere around them. We wanted to change that by creating an interactive experience that encourages fans to stay engaged with the game, their teams, and the people around them.

What it does

Dolphins Connect transforms live sporting events into an interactive fan experience. From football games to soccer matches and racing events, fans can:

Stay updated with real-time game scores and progress. Guess game outcomes and earn points for correct predictions. Test sports knowledge through interactive trivia. Track crowd noise and see which stadium sections and cities bring the most energy. Earn points and compete with other fans and stadium sections. Access game schedules, player information, and personal stats.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was working with varying levels of technical experience across the team. While some of us had limited or rusty experience with Figma, others were unfamiliar with the more advanced coding concepts required to bring an application like this to life. Translating our ideas into functional features while learning along the way pushed us outside our comfort zones. Coordinating the frontend and backend was another challenge that taught us the importance of collaboration and clear communication.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have developed a complete, multi-screen app prototype from the ground up without relying on AI tools in the designing process. As a team of beginners, being able to take an idea from brainstorming to a application design was a huge accomplishment. More importantly, we challenged ourselves to learn, experiment, and build something beyond our existing skill sets.

What we learned

We learned how to turn an idea into a structured application, design user-friendly interfaces, and think through the technical requirements behind interactive features. We also gained a better understanding of how frontend and backend systems work together, the importance of teamwork, and how much can be accomplished when everyone contributes their strengths and learns from one another.

What's next for Dolphins Connect

We envision expanding Dolphins Connect into a more comprehensive sports engagement platform with features such as:

Allow fans to follow game highlights and key moments. Give fans a space to react and interact with one another during games. Keep fans engaged even during breaks in gameplay. Explore motion-based interactions that encourage fans to participate physically and celebrate together. Expand beyond football to soccer, racing, and other live sporting events.
