Dollar Quest

Inspiration

The development of Dollar Quest was inspired by the challenges presented by Scotiabank, TD, and Zynga. For inspiration, we looked back on when we were younger, and remembered the nostalgia of games like WebKinz and Club Penguin that we loved playing! We wanted to capture the fun of playing these childhood games while also sharing the knowledge we have learned with the future generation. Being young women ourselves, we personally identify with the importance of receiving education on finance early on and are excited to pass on this important knowledge.

Importance of the Game

The game emphasizes the importance of young girls having a proficiency in financial literacy which plays an important role in navigating their careers for the future since education is the key to success!

What it does

Dollar Quest is an interactive game aimed at girls between the ages of 10-15 to gain financial literacy through a simulation experience! Through customizing their journey, users will have a personalized experience that will educate them to make smart choices with their money!

How we built it

We build Dollar Quest using Figma and Stencyl. Figma was utilized to design the navigation of the UI and takes us through a user playing the simulation while Stencyl showcases one of the primary mechanics we plan to incorporate into the final version which is moving throughout the map.

Challenges we ran into

Game development was something none of us were very familiar with but we were looking forward to experimenting with different resources to create an innovative and engaging game concept. This project was a challenge we were excited to take on and create!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We collaborated as a team to brainstorm and apply our problem-solving skills in a creative manner. We're especially proud of getting our feet wet into introductory game development through Stencyl.

What we learned

We learned introductory game development and furthered our knowledge in creating user interfaces.

What's next for Dollar Quest

As our users mature and are faced with more complex financial decisions, we plan to further develop our game to include loans, the concept of credit, taxes, and mortgages - especially with the addition of our users' newly acquired house! As previewed in the game, there are also many other career story arcs for users to explore. Lastly, we hope to curate financial learning modules using industry expertise from professionals and teachers.
