Inspiration
The inspiration that I had for this project was how it is very difficult to get started on budgeting one's finances and income. It is hard for one to get started on it, so we wanted this tool to be an introduction for those that have recently secured an annual income and wish to be financially safe.
What it does
The goal for this tool is to be an introduction and gateway for those that want to spread their money wisely based on a couple questions about their income and habits, and then suggesting how their budget would be laid out.
How we built it
We built it in using React and publishing the project onto Github.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into was coming up with easy but thoughtful questions for the user to answer, as it would have an effect on the percentages of how their budget should be spent. Stemming from this, this also resulted in us coming across math errors from Javascript of floating point errors and us having to compensate and fix those.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're definitely proud of how much of the application we were able to finish, complete with a simple design and easy to use interface, but also the obviousness of the tool. Creating this in a language we're not familiar definitely posed challenges, but overcoming them was great.
What we learned
A major thing that we learned was the handling of user events and changing the content in the application accordingly. For a tool that can be widely used for something as important as finances, it is important that there were no issues with interacting with it.
What's next for DOGE Finances
Something that we look forward to is expanding on this project later down the line, complete with more questions and more robust calculations and weighting in the responses to also better gauge responses and results.
