Inspiration
We wanted to create a game, which we had never done before. Originally, we wanted to make a platform game, but then we moved to create a more simple and playful game.
What it does
Our program is a game in which you press the spacebar to feed a dog. Every time you get the treat into the dog's mouth, the score goes up by one and messages appear as you get more points. You can reset the game by clicking the mouse.
How we built it
We built it using software processing, which uses Java, to create a game. We had a lot of help from mentors but mostly used if statements and tied them to key commands so that things would happen when the player pressed keys. We also used colors and text to make it look better aesthetically.
Challenges we ran into
Most of us had no coding experience prior to the Learnathon yesterday so it was difficult because we had to figure out many commands that we had never heard of before. The biggest challenge was figuring out booleans with if statements because we needed that to make text appear at certain times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating the game in the first place because we had never done anything like that before. We're the proudest of figuring out the gamecount and how to make the number go up when the ball reached a certain point as well as figuring out how to reset the whole counter by clicking with the mouse.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to use the program processing and Java syntax, which was very different from Python, which we learned at the Learnathon yesterday. We got a lot more familiar with typing out commands and using boolean to make things appear.
What's next for Dog Health
We want to develop the game to look better and there were also some glitches with the text appearing. We would want to add more detail into the game and have more levels or objectives, as well as make the game more complicated and entertaining to play.
