Inspiration: As a team of animal lovers, we wanted to make a game with a cute pet. We wanted to incorporate art by designing the entire game with things we created ourselves and pixel art was a way to make it possible while still looking good.

What it does: Dog Days is a 2D side scrolling platformer with three levels that uses simple controls to collect items that allow the user to progress.

How I built it: We used Godot for programming the game and digital art applications such as Procreate and Pixelable to create the backgrounds, sprites, platforms, and animation.

Challenges I ran into: Godot is new to all members of our group, so there were some challenges associated with the software. The main problem we ran into was because Godot comes with most of the back-end already made, if we wanted to make a big change it would take a lot of time so it put a limitation on how much we could get done during the event.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of: Both the quantity and quality of the pixel art we produced in such a short time as well as the fact that we made a finished product with a software we had never used before.

What I learned: 1) There's a lot that goes into creating a game. 2) Art can be frustrating but rewarding. 3) Cooperation is key with projects that rely on multiple people working together. 4) Godot is a cool!

What's next for Dog Days: We want to add a Cat Nights extension for cat lovers! We already have the sprites for the cat and a mouse art to replace the bones, but we ran out of time and had to limit ourselves to just Dog Days. Also, we would like to continue the journey with more levels, goals, and adventure.
