Inspiration

My real life. I play the game all the time in the car, and it is hard to keep track of points on long car rides.

What it does

It tracks points. When you are in the car, every animal you see has a point value. This app features the most common animals we see. You drive around, and the passenger will record the score with the app.

How I built it

I built it using Atom, and a lot of W3School and Mozillla documentation. I used PhoneGap so it can be cross platform.

Challenges I ran into

DIV alignments! PhoneGap did not work as intended on the WiFi, so I had to do some fun terminal hacking around to get it to work. Also PhoneGap was being quite buggy for a period of time, and it lead to massively asynchronous code..

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm just happy I got through my first hackathon, and completed a fairly simple project that was new territory for me. I have been meaning to make this app for a bit, but was previously turned away because web dev isn't my thing.

What I learned

I learned a lot about horizontal and vertical div alignments! I also got a better grasp on the basic JavaScript, HTML, CSS workflow. Previously, I was not able to utilize JavaScript's dynamic capabilities.

What's next for Dog! (animals seen from a car)

I will reorganize some of the back end. I plan to build a more responsive UI, and try to learn more capabilities with JavaScript. I will continue to find improvements because I drive a lot with my spouse. And she might want to create icons for the animals.
