DocuMind – From Scattered Documents to Verified Intelligence
Inspiration
Organizations manage huge amounts of information through PDFs, company policies, manuals and reports. Finding the right information quickly can be difficult and time-consuming. We were inspired to build a solution that makes organizational knowledge easier to access and understand.
What it does
DocuMind is an AI-powered enterprise knowledge and policy intelligence system. Users can upload multiple documents and ask questions in natural language. It retrieves relevant information and generates answers supported by document names, page references and source evidence.
Its key capabilities include document summarization, policy comparison, contradiction detection and knowledge gap identification. An advanced AI Copilot can also help transform verified information into guided workflows and draft reports.
How we built it
We designed DocuMind using Python and Streamlit. PyMuPDF is used for PDF text extraction, Sentence Transformers for generating embeddings, and FAISS or ChromaDB for semantic search. Gemini AI helps generate responses using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
Challenges we faced
One of our main challenges was retrieving the most relevant information from multiple documents and ensuring that AI responses remain grounded in the available sources. We also considered how to handle missing or conflicting information without generating unsupported answers.
What we learned
Through this project, we explored Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, semantic search, document processing and vector databases. We also learned how AI can help solve practical problems in enterprise knowledge management.
Our vision: Make organizational knowledge accessible, reliable and actionable.
