Inspiration

We wanted to solve a problem almost everyone faces: messy digital files. Important documents get buried in downloads, scattered across folders, or named so poorly that finding them later becomes frustrating. We were inspired to build Document Organizer as a simple AI-powered solution that removes the manual effort of sorting files and helps people stay organized automatically.

What it does

Document Organizer is an AI tool that automatically analyzes documents and sorts them into their corresponding folders. Instead of users manually reviewing every file, the system identifies what a document is, determines where it belongs, and organizes it for them. This saves time, reduces clutter, and makes document management much more efficient.

How we built it

We built Document Organizer by combining document parsing, text analysis, and AI-based classification. First, the tool extracts relevant information from each uploaded document, such as keywords, titles, or content categories. Then, an AI model predicts the most appropriate folder based on the document’s contents. Finally, the system routes the file into its assigned folder through an organized backend workflow. We also built a simple user interface to make uploading and reviewing files intuitive.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was handling documents with ambiguous or overlapping content. Some files did not clearly belong to a single category, which made classification harder. We also ran into issues with inconsistent file formats and document structures, since not every file contains clean or predictable text. Another challenge was balancing automation with user trust—we wanted the AI to make smart decisions, while still keeping the process transparent and easy to review.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we built a tool that solves a real, everyday problem in a practical way. One of our biggest accomplishments was creating a workflow where documents can be automatically understood and sorted with minimal user effort. We’re also proud of building a simple and accessible experience that makes AI feel useful right away, rather than complicated or intimidating.

What we learned

Through building Document Organizer, we learned a lot about the challenges of document classification and workflow automation. We saw that AI can be powerful for reducing repetitive tasks, but it works best when paired with clear logic and thoughtful UX. We also learned how important it is to account for edge cases, especially when dealing with real-world documents that are often messy and inconsistent.

What's next for Document Organizer

Next, we want to improve classification accuracy, support more document types, and let users create custom folder rules based on their own needs. We’d also like to add feedback features so users can correct mistakes and help the system learn over time. In the future, Document Organizer could integrate directly with cloud storage platforms like Google Drive or Dropbox, making automatic file organization seamless across all of a user’s documents.
