Inspiration
Important details are often buried in long documents, and finding them again can be frustrating. We wanted to make it easier to understand a document and locate the information that matters.
What it does
DocTrace helps users explore documents and find relevant information. Users can ask questions about a document and get answers based on its contents.
How we built it
We built DocTrace with a document-processing workflow that extracts text and uses AI to answer questions about the uploaded content. The interface lets users provide a document and interact with it in plain language.
Challenges we ran into
We had to make the answers useful while keeping them grounded in the document. Handling different document formats and making the experience simple were also challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We turned the idea into a working tool that makes document information easier to access. We’re proud of creating a clear way for users to ask questions instead of searching through pages manually.
What we learned
We learned that useful AI tools need to do more than generate fluent answers: they need to make it clear where information comes from and help users verify it.
What's next for DocTrace — Document Tracking and Understanding
We’d like to improve support for more document types, make answers easier to verify with source references, and add reminders for important dates or action items when the document contains them.
