In such a technologically influenced world, members of society have greater opportunities when it comes to accessing necessities on demand. However, such a luxury can be absent in underdeveloped third world nations, where even receiving proper medical attention can be an unrealistic reality for most individuals. Due to the technological segregation cased by the economic situation in these nations, most individuals are unable to receive proper medical assistance that could have otherwise prevented terminal illnesses from occurring.
Where individuals in developed nations have the ability to access medical attention straight from the palm of their hand, our goal was to design a product that bridge the medical segregation individuals in third worlds face by providing them the ability to access medical attention easily.
What it does
DoctorNow aims to allow individuals in less fortunate and medically remote areas access to the basic necessity of healthcare by providing them the ability to connect with a medical professional remotely. Our platform was built on the ideology that a patient in need of medical assistant could check in with a nurse for a physical synopsis, to then be connected with a doctor remotely for further medical attention.
How we built it
We decided to build a web application to connect patients to doctors over video. The ideology was that we would have nurses check in patients in a clinic and note any physical symptoms and conditions for the doctor to
Our front-end utilized react and bootstrap to create type forms for nurses and doctors to interact with when working with patients
Our back-end was built with node.js and powered by firebase to transfer data between medical professionals and for easy communication connection between patients and doctors.
Challenges we ran into
- integration of speech to text between multiple languages using deep learning
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Integrating firebase
- Making asynchronous calls with react
- Working with talkbox for the video call API
What we learned
- We learned a lot about integrating firebase, opentok and utilizing react to effectively allow for data transfer between medical staff and connecting patients with doctors.
What's next for DoctorNow
The next step is to allow patients the ability to request medical attention remotely through their mobile devices. Allowing for medical attention straight from the palm of the user's hands!
