Inspiration

We were inspired by a personal struggle to find an appropriate practitioner for a specific condition. It was a stressful time while we navigating the sea of conflicting reviews online, unsure of what to believe. We wanted to create a tool that would help others quickly find a clinic near them with positive reviews, that all also specialized in the specific condition they wanted to treat.

What it does

Doctor Reco allows the user to input their symptoms, figure out what kind of a specialist they should see, and find the nearest clinic that suits their needs.

How we built it

The frontend was built in unity to support our most powerful features like street view map visualization & AR navigation, while our backend routed HTTP requests through Google Scripts to provide personalized recommendations and a concise summary of clinic reviews via the Zembra API and a pre-trained Hugging Face sentiment analysis model.

Challenges we ran into

We all had to learn new technologies for this project. Zembra's API, which we used to get reviews for businesses, was one that we struggled with. During the process of testing, we found out that despite being able to get RateMD reviews for a clinic, Zembra seemed to only support lookups for practitioners.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What's next for Doctor Reco

We aim to implement a user review system where users can rate the recommendations given through the app. Their feedback will be used to adjust the doctor recommendations in our system.
