Inspiration
DockWeather PRO was inspired by the critical need for dock workers to have access to real-time weather and maritime information. The importance of safe and efficient dock operations and the impact on global supply chains motivated me to create a solution that provides quick and accurate data to the workers who keep the world's trade moving.
What it does
DockWeather PRO is a web application that empowers dock workers with up-to-date weather, sea conditions, and critical information to enhance their safety and work efficiency. It serves as a user-friendly interface for accessing crucial data in real-time.
How I built it
I built DockWeather PRO using Streamlit.io, a Python library that simplified the development of my web application. Leveraging Streamlit's widget-like behavior and comprehensive documentation, I was able to create an intuitive user interface that even those with limited web app development experience can navigate easily.
Challenges we ran into
It was quite difficult attempting to integrate a larger dataset into this web app as there is so much information correlating to maritime resources. It was also quite challenging to work on this alone especially when trying web development for the first time and not being quite familiar with Streamlit.io's software.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of creating the framework for a web app that can provide the appropriate information to dock workers who rely on it for their safety and livelihood.
What I learned
I learned how to leverage technology, in this case, Streamlit.io, to make data accessible and actionable for end-users.
What's next for DockWeather PRO
In the future, I plan to expand the capabilities of DockWeather PRO by incorporating additional data sources and features. It would also be very interesting to incorporate some machine learning and AI technologies to see how AI prediction models can assist meteorologists in the weather world and lessen the chances of unpredictable and unsafe conditions occurring.
