Inspiration As remote/hybrid work and schooling continues to take over, we wanted to create an app that can reduce the stressful life that has been introduced into people's households
What it does Docktor Kitty is an interactive desktop pet that allows you to play with the cat (drag, drop, and pet) as well as prompt encouraging messages to remind users to maintain an encouraging lifestyle while it takes a stroll across your monitor
How we built it The gui for Docktor Kitty was made using pywin32, the scripts are made using python and the animations were drawn using Pixelart.com
Challenges we ran into Pygame isn't a suitable SDL for having the GUI app stay in front of the other applications, so we used the pywin32 module to bypass the issue with executive commands
Pygame is slow at processing and will lag if the code is not efficient
Accomplishments that we're proud of We implemented APIs, which we were not familiar with; the UIs are very intuitive; and the animations are hand-drawn
What we learned Importance of planning, scheduling, and working as a group to utilize varying technologies to develop the app (i.e implementing APIs)
What's next for Docktor Kitty We hope to add more useful tips to reduce stress and boost mental/physical health and allow users to interact with Docktor Kitty in new ways
