Inspiration

DocEase – Making documents accessible to everyone.
The idea was to create something useful for people who struggle with understanding long documents—especially those who only understand regional languages. This becomes a major issue when dealing with important documents related to finance, policies, and more. Many people either get scammed or skip reading such documents due to their lengthy content, causing them to unknowingly agree to unfavorable terms.

What it does

DocEase is a modern web application that makes documents accessible to everyone by leveraging AI for translation, simplification, Q&A, and advanced data visualization. Built with React, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, and Google Gemini AI, DocEase empowers users to upload documents, get simplified translations in multiple languages, ask questions, and visualize document data interactively.

Features

  • Document Upload & Extraction: Upload PDF and text documents. Extracts and processes text using PDF.js.
  • AI-Powered Translation & Simplification: Instantly translate and simplify complex documents into plain language in your preferred language.
  • Audio Playback: Listen to translated or simplified content using built-in speech synthesis.
  • AI Q&A: Ask questions about your document and get instant, context-aware answers powered by Google Gemini AI.
  • Advanced Visualization: Transform documents into interactive charts, word clouds, sentiment maps, and more.
  • Multi-language Support: Translate and simplify content in English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian.

How we built it

It started with the idea of making financial documents accessible to all users by providing regional language support for better understanding—eventually evolving into DocEase.

We used this prompt to build:

I want you to act as a prompt engineer. And I want you to look up all the documentation and YouTube videos you can find on how to best prompt Bolt.new. At the same time, I want you to go through the documentation on best practices for prompting Claude 4 to build the following app:

"FinLang – AI-Powered Financial Document Simplifier"
Problem Solved: Financial documents (mutual fund T&Cs, insurance policies, loan documents) are confusing.
Solution: A browser extension or app that converts complex financial jargon into plain English, Hindi, or vernacular languages—with voice support.
AI Feature: Ask natural language questions like “Can I cancel this policy early?” and get contextual answers.

Despite running into several challenges, we managed to make it work successfully.

Challenges we ran into

  • We faced numerous issues with third-party libraries used for extracting PDF content.
  • Handling errors for password-protected PDFs was challenging.
  • The biggest challenge was integrating the AI chatbot. We eventually solved it by working with the free Gemini API key.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully implemented the following features:

  • FileUpload: Handles document uploads and extraction.
  • LanguageSelector: Dropdown for selecting the target translation language.
  • TranslationPanel: Displays original and translated/simplified text, with audio playback.
  • ChatInterface: AI-powered Q&A about the uploaded document.
  • DataVisualization: Renders interactive charts and visualizations from document data.
  • Header: App navigation and branding.

What we learned

  • How to simplify documents and provide regional translation support using AI.
  • How to effectively use free AI API keys to integrate advanced AI features.

What's next for DocEase

We plan to enhance DocEase by adding features like a Context-Aware API Documentation Generator—which will simplify the documentation process for non-coders by generating interactive docs directly from an organization’s GitHub repository.
