DoAReview

Inspiration

As students, we often learn concepts well enough to pass an exam but struggle to remember or apply them weeks or months later. We wanted to make reviewing coursework more engaging and help students retain what they've learned beyond the classroom. Inspired by Duolingo's bite-sized lessons and gamified learning experience, we created DoAReview to make revisiting academic concepts a more consistent habit.

What it does

DoAReview is a coursework review platform designed to help students revisit concepts from their classes through short, interactive learning sessions. Rather than waiting until an exam to review material, students can build a habit of practicing concepts over time and strengthen their understanding of previously learned material. Students can also generate questions when they want to from Gemini's prompts

How we built it

We designed DoAReview around the idea of making academic review feel approachable, engaging, and easy to fit into a student's daily routine. We focused on creating a streamlined experience inspired by gamified learning platforms, with an emphasis on breaking coursework into manageable review sessions.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was narrowing down a broad problem into a focused product that could be developed within a hackathon. We also had to think about how to make reviewing coursework useful beyond simply rereading notes, while balancing our ideas with the limited time available to implement them.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of turning a common student struggle into a concrete product concept. DoAReview gave us an opportunity to explore how gamification and consistent practice could make reviewing coursework more engaging and help students develop better long-term learning habits.

What we learned

We learned the importance of prioritizing a clear core experience over trying to implement every feature we envisioned. We also explored how generative AI can support educational tools by creating practice questions, while recognizing the importance of making sure generated content is relevant and accurate.

What's next for DoAReview

We want to develop DoAReview into a more personalized learning platform that helps students identify their weakest concepts and prioritize what they should review next. Future improvements could include spaced repetition, progress tracking, course-specific question generation, and adaptive practice sessions that revisit concepts based on student performance.
