Inspiration
The inspiration behind DoIt comes from the social media platform beReal and to-do list managers. We initially wanted some sort of to-do list tracker, as this would help encourage organization and efficiency for the user -- both aspects that would greatly improve mental health and wellbeing; greater productivity and organization will reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. We used this to-do list manager as a base to add our social media factor, creating a feature that for friends and feeds to be added. In our program, users would take a photo of them completing the task and post to their feed for others to confirm and see what their friends are up to.
What it does
DoIt promotes a variety of different tasks to the user by assigning and notifying one task (personal, social, or communal) a day to the user. Users can add friends on the application and post pictures of them completing the task to their feed for points (personal: 5, social: 10, community: 15). Personal tasks hone in on user's personal life such as cleaning the room and completing their homework. Social tasks regard those around the user, such as contacting and catching up with family and friends. Tasks about the community will be to better help the community at large, such as volunteering at the food bank and learning how to compost.
How we built it
We built this by dividing into three parts: design, Java, HTML. We worked together on each component, designing the website, coding the logic of the random task generations and point systems, and making both of these come true with HTML and CSS website building.
Challenges we ran into
A big challenge we faced was working with GitHub and implementing our Java into the HTML. None of us had attempted such before, but with some help and lots of debugging, we were able to correctly develop the website including our Java logic.
What we learned
We learned the works of GitHub, Java implementation, and the minds of developer. Creating a new project was difficult for us, especially because everything we brainstormed already had a famous app linked to it.
What's next for Do It
In the future, we hope to include a mobile app option in addition to a more honed desktop website. With continuous effort, we believe that we can eventually develop the mobile app version and test it out ourselves.
