We wanted to make Covid testing more accessible
In the pandemic we are currently living through, there is a lot of information as well as misinformation that clutters the internet making it hard for people to understand if they need to get a Covid test or where to get one.
What it does
Find out if you need a test and where to get one The user answers two question regarding symptoms and potential contact. Depending on their answers, they are either told they do not need a Covid test at the moment or that they need one as soon as possible. In case of the latter, the user is asked to proceed to the map to find a testing site near them.
How I built it
We implemented the Google Maps API using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The Javascript was key in getting the map to do what we wanted as well as display the correct outputs for the question responses.
Challenges I ran into
We had difficulty implementing the Google Maps API at first. It was our first time ever using an API but through research we were able to figure things out.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Our team is very proud of the implementation of our Google Maps API. It was our first time using an API as well as coding in Javascript.
What I learned
We learned the value of API's in web applications as well as how to implement them.
What's next for Do I need a Covid Test?
The next thing on the to do list is to have pop up windows on the icons in the map that display the phone number, website, and address of the location.
