Inspiration
I've followed Gabby for a few years and here message about giving yourself permission to go after what you want has always stuck with me, even when I wasn't acting on it.
When I saw her video about this contest, I thought this is literally the app I've been wanting in the back of my head for myself. I have a Notes app full of dreams I never do anything about. I'm really good at saving inspiration. I'm really bad at doing something about it.
So I decided to stop waiting and just make it!
What it does
DoDream helps ambitious women go from dreaming to doing.
You type in a goal you've been putting off. The app gives you a Permission Slip (because sometimes you just need someone to tell you it's okay to want big things). Then AI breaks your dream into 4-5 actionable micro-steps you can actually do this week.
As you complete steps, you get celebration moments. When you finish a goal, you take a photo of yourself in that moment. Over time, you build a gallery of wins. Visual proof that you're someone who does the things she dreams about.
How I built it
This was my first time vibe coding. I work in finance, not tech, so this was all new to me.
I used:
- React Native + Expo for the app
- Apple Foundation Models for on-device AI (no cloud, completely private)
- RevenueCat for subscriptions
- Zustand for state management
The AI runs entirely on-device using Apple's new Foundation Models framework. It's fast, private, and doesn't need internet to work.
Challenges I ran into
Getting Apple Foundation Models to work was the biggest learning curve. It's a brand new framework and there aren't many tutorials out there yet and not a lot of documentation for AI to look through.
Also, I've never built an app before. Every step was new. Learning to vibe code was fun, but also I trusted the AI to make many technical decisions while I focused on the user experience. However, the app is fully functional and stable.
What I learned
- How to actually ship something
- React Native and Expo with AI tools are actually incredibly beginner-friendly
- Apple's on-device AI is powerful for simple tasks like goal breakdown
- RevenueCat makes monetization so easy!
I built this because I needed it. I've been using it every day. I'd love to keep building it with Gabby and actually help her audience stop waiting and start living!
