My Genome Analysis Project Journey

Inspiration

My inspiration for this project stemmed from a desire to democratize access to genetic health information of animals for better health in anticipation of their genetic inheritance. I witnessed firsthand the barriers individuals face in obtaining costly genetic analysis services. I was determined to create a solution that would empower people to understand their genetic health risks without breaking the bank.

Learning

Throughout this project, I delved deep into the fields of genetics, bioinformatics, and machine learning. I learned about DNA sequencing technologies, genetic variations associated with diseases, and algorithms for analyzing genomic data. Additionally, I gained valuable insights into user experience design and software development principles.

Building the Project

I began by researching existing genome analysis tools and studying relevant scientific literature. Armed with this knowledge, I developed algorithms to process genome sequence files and predict disease risks based on known genetic markers. I collaborated with experts in genetics and software engineering to refine the accuracy and usability of the platform.

Challenges

One of the main challenges I faced was ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the data. I encountered technical hurdles in optimizing algorithm performance and handling large genomic datasets efficiently. Additionally, privacy and security concerns regarding genetic data storage and analysis was a priority throughout the project, although still in progress, the potential can be seen.

Despite these challenges, I persevered, driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to their genetic health information. Through continuous iteration and refinement, I successfully created a user-friendly and cost-effective genome analysis platform that empowers individuals to take control of their health.
