Inspiration

Our idea was to foster tight-knit communities by sourcing local workers rather than outside labor. We adopted a crowd-sourcing model used by big companies such as Airbnb, Doordash, Uber. This method ensures users employ familiar faces in the community and feel safe for it. Lokal doesn’t just benefit employers as we alleviate their work load, we also allow employers to hustle, learn a new skill or even make new friends in the community.

What it does

Lokal allows users to create and accept temporary job listings, and then uses location and work history to recommend jobs to other Lokal users in the area. With a profile system, job-listers know who to expect and freelancers know how much they’re getting paid.

How we built it

We used reactJs to create our front-end experience and firebase to store the data that makes Lokal go. The Google Maps JavaScript API and the Geocoding API power our explore tab, where users can see and accept jobs that are nearby.

Challenges we ran into

Firebase recently changed their API. Brainstorm functions on the website that we can perform within a 24 hour time frame. Ensure data flows dynamically and instantly between website and Firestore Learn new API, such as material UI and Google API

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Amazing UIUX design and easy navigation throughout the website.
