Inspiration
Turning a physical object and passion into a digital tool.
What it does
Enables people to mix songs like a DJ directly in their browser without the need for any hardware.
How we built it
Draft PRD in ChatGPT -> review PRD -> paste PRD in Bolt -> test output -> update PRD based on what worked and what didn't -> paste PRD in Bolt (new project) -> test output -> repeat, repeat, repeat
Challenges we ran into
Core features not working. Changing the prompt (PRD) sometime had significant changes to the output both in terms of functionality and design. Took quite some time to get to the final output, which still could be better. Generally trying to recreate a physical hardware in a browser was a bit challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A lot of functionality working in the one-shot, decent UX, and solving the core goal of being able to mix songs in the browser.
What we learned
Small changes to the prompt can lead to big changes in the output. Being very specific in what needs to be done and what must work is important.
What's next for DJ QuickMix
Design-wise: 1) get a more hardware feel, 2) make it easier to use with just a mouse and keyboard, 3) make the entire mixer fit in one screen (no scrolling). Feature-wise: 1) Improve looping, 2) ensure auto-sync works, 3) better display of sings playing, 4) general performance improvements (no lagging etc.)
