Inspiration
I am inspired by all the possible positive solutions that AI can be used for to solve global problems. Remember, you live in a world where 2 billion people do not have access to the internet. Where 1 billion children live in poverty, and the 1% holds more wealth than 7 billion combined. You live in a world where 1 million species face extinction due to climate change, where glaciers are disappearing and if emissions are not reduced drastically, it will be too late. A world that is not equal. Its a world that needs you.
What it does
Diya is an AI-powered voicebot that educates users in India about diabetes, helps them assess personal risk, and shares actionable insights — all through simple, natural voice conversations. Diya aims to bridge the awareness gap and gather anonymized data to support better healthcare decisions.
How we built it
We used Voiceflow to design Diya’s conversational flow, allowing for dynamic, multilingual voice interactions. The frontend is housed on Repl.it, providing a lightweight, web-accessible interface. The bot is structured to ask risk-factor questions, explain diabetes symptoms, and link users to follow-up care or surveys.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing engagement with learning and making sure the conversation flowed naturally and the user understands the purpose and trusts the bot to give information to it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
• Raised awareness about a silent public health crisis in an innovative way
• Laid the groundwork for potential community-level data collection
What we learned
• The power of simple tools (Voiceflow + Bolt) to rapidly prototype impact-driven AI
• How important trust and tone are when discussing sensitive health topics
• That you don’t need a big team to make a tool that could save lives
What's next for Diya
• Add Hindi and other Indian languages
• Aquire funding to start gathering data and value for the Government
Notes
I am a Masters student from IE University. The demo of the voice bot is running on a free trial account on voice flow, which means it will run out of credits.
