Inspiration

we were inspired by real incidents where domestic violence victims called 911 and pretended to order pizza to signal for assistance, we aimed to create a digital alternative for those who may not be able to speak on the phone. We recognize that seeking help can often be unsafe and challenging, particularly for women and marginalized communities. Our team is deeply committed to providing a secure and accessible platform that ensures individuals receive the necessary support to remove themselves from dangerous situations.

What it does

The project allows the user to order a pizza and once they get it from cart it decodes their order and sends it to a nearby police station. The menu pages allows the user to hover over the options and tells them what they mean to the police. Then the cart saves the information in the session and can be accessed to send to station.

How we built it

We built it using CSS, JavaScript (JSX), and HTML. With a react framework and library.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into multiple challenges. One being merge conflicts with GitHub, we had lost parts of our code and had to essentially start from scratch. It was very frustrating but we pushed through. Another challenge we had was learning CSS, JavaScript and HTML as we were developing our project. Additionally, we ran into issues downloading Node.js to our computers. And finally we had issues with communication in the beginning and accidentally wrote or updates .css files without informing everyone.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud to complete all our goals and task we had set for ourselves. Considering this was our first hack-a-thon we had set a goal to create a completed and finished project. We were really proud to have learned the languages we were working with and able to grasp basic concepts of the languages.

What we learned

We learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and how to work with a react framework and working with VITE. We also got to improve our git skills especially with the command line.

What's next for Divine Slice

Our next goals with this project would be to implement a carry out function that'll show police stations and shelters that are in a 5 mile radius of the user and directions on how to get there. We also want to include a standby feature, this feature will create a report for those who feel they are in danger but don't think they need the cops right away, however after a certain amount of time (provided by user) if there is no activity in the page the cops would be dispatched for a wellness check.
