The inspiration behind Diversity Matters was to create an app that is easily accessible to both prospective and current/former employees in order to record the experiences of diversity and inclusivity or lack thereof in a workspace.
What it does
The app allows users to check in with other companies to gain a better understanding of which workspaces are compatible with their specific wants or needs based on the reviews of current/former employees.
How I built it
We used Android Studio to create the application
Challenges I ran into
We had challenges with choosing a platform for the application. We also had issues developing and sticking with a concept.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
After all the challenges we faced, we were able to get Diversity Matters up and running for presentation, and that is something our team is proud of. Most people on our team have never been to a hackathon before so creating an app in 24 hours was a new concept, but we were able to make it to the deadline.
What I learned
We learned how to use Android Studio to create an app.
What's next for Diversity Matters
Our future plans for Diversity Matters is to develop the app so it's more user-friendly. Also, we'd like to collaborate with companies like LinkedIn and the companies we're reviewing as a way to verify the employment of the user's reviews. We also want to create a diversity assessment/quiz that is fun for the users and creates an inclusivity score(1-10) for each company. We also want to expand towards the LGBTQIA+ community on this application.
