Inspiration

Diversity and inclusion play a significant role in trying to reach an equitable society in the US. More specifically, diversity and inclusion in the workplace create more access to opportunity for all people who have the merit to be there and includes people who were previously denied the opportunity to learn, work, and lead due to racist systems. While companies have made it a mission of theirs to have better diversity and inclusion, the execution of their goals are subpar and their intentions do not match their executions. Additionally, there are still countless instances of racism, microaggressions, oppression, etc within these companies despite their commitment to diversity and inclusion. There needs to be a way for workers to report their incidents in a safe and anonymous way which is shown publicly so these companies can be held to a higher standard by the public. This would be similar to RateMyProfessor but rating your company. We are submitting this project to the Inequality track.

What it does

The web app, DiversifyMyCompany is an online platform for people to anonymously submit ratings about a specified company against a specific diversity standard. The user goes to the site, can submit a review by choosing their company, choosing a diversity standard to rate, giving the company a rating for that standard, and adding any additional information about relevant experiences. Additionally, the user can view posts made by other users and see the average scores various companies received.

How I built it

To create the database that will hold the user responses, we used flask, SQLite, and VSCode. Then we created other pages that showed the company's diversity and inclusion rating averages using Html and CSS.

Challenges I ran into

It was difficult to add multiple parameters and connecting it to the database because it would not let us add it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of how much we learned as a group.

What I learned

I learned how to use flask, SQLite, Python, javascript, and more about HTML, and CSS.

What's next for DiversifyMyCompany

The future of DiversifyMyCompany includes more work on the CSS and greater database capacity.
