Inspiration
Women, and especially first-time investors—are consistently underserved by the financial system. Research from the Financial Alliance for Women shows that women feel:
intimidated when entering financial spaces
talked over by advisors or experts
afraid of asking what they think are “basic” questions
overwhelmed by jargon-heavy content
This creates a structural problem:
The people who need investment tools the most are the least supported at the starting line.
We wanted to build a product that doesn’t just teach women how to invest, but actually removes the barriers that keep them from engaging in the first place.
What it does
Our app is a full learning ecosystem designed to build financial confidence for women through clarity, context, and intuitive UX.
🟣 1. TikTok-Style Feed
A swipeable feed of short videos + text designed to:
teach bite-sized concepts
feel familiar to users who already consume TikTok/Reels
make finance fun and non-intimidating
allow inline explanations on any confusing term
🟣 2. Learn Tab (Courses + Quizzes + AI Clarifier)
A structured curriculum for beginners with:
video lessons
quizzes
beginner modules
AI Financial Mentor (Gemini) for real-time clarification
contextual understanding (Gemini gets the whole lesson + highlighted term)
🟣 3. Discover Tab (Beginner-Friendly Stock Exploration)
A low-pressure, approachable discovery space that includes:
simple stock summaries
plain-language explanations
curated categories for new investors
confidence-building visuals instead of intimidating charts
🟣 4. Profile Tab
Tracks:
completed lessons
quizzes
saved explanations
progress streaks
bookmarked stocks
This creates a sense of ownership and personal growth.
🟣 The Core Feature: 1-Click Inline Jargon Clarifier
Anytime a user highlights a confusing word or concept, our system:
Detects the exact highlighted term
Sends the entire surrounding text + the term to Gemini
Returns a context-aware, jargon-free explanation
Displays it inline without navigating away
This reduces embarrassment, supports autonomy, and builds financial confidence moment-by-moment.
How we built it
Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript
Styling: Tailwind CSS + shadcn/ui
AI Layer: Gemini API with full-text context passing
Challenges we ran into
Making highlighting work without clicking underlying buttons
Contextualizing AI prompts so the explanation isn’t generic
Getting the “AI Insight” bubble to anchor exactly where the user highlighted
Ensuring the UI felt playful and non-intimidating
Deploy issues with pnpm lockfiles + Vercel pipeline
Condensing complex financial concepts into accessible language
We also had to iterate on how much context to send Gemini — too little felt vague; too much slowed down response times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a tool that makes women feel safe, supported, and empowered
Created TikTok-style financial education that users actually want to consume
Designed contextual AI explanations that feel human, not robotic
Built an entire 4-tab app from scratch in <48 hours
Received strong feedback from mentors who said this feels like a real product, not a hackathon demo
What we learned
Jargon is one of the biggest structural barriers to financial literacy
Context-aware AI is significantly more effective than generic prompts
Women don’t lack interest in investing—they lack judgment-free spaces
Good UX = confidence
Small interactions (like a highlight → explanation) can reshape entire learning pathways
What's next for divadends
Build community features like group challenges or “Learn With Me”
Translate content for non-English users
Integrate real financial APIs for live stock data
Our long-term vision is to make Clarity the most welcoming, intuitive, and empowering financial learning platform for women globally.
