Inspiration
This piece began with the unique power of Diu vi Salve Regina — a hymn equally sacred and profane, cultural and spiritual, intimate and collective. Its words, prayer-like yet deeply human, led me to imagine the Regina not as a fixed religious icon but as a universal divine feminine, a presence that transcends geography, rites, and traditions. The challenge was to give her form without falling into pious clichés or static iconography. I wanted to honor Corsica’s voice and heritage while pushing the hymn into mythology, epic narrative, fantasy, and cosmic genesis. The Regina emerged as a trans-religious, planetary figure — a guardian whose light belongs to all humanity.
What it does
The film offers a mythopoetic retelling of the Regina’s story: • her cosmic birth, radiating from primordial light • her descent to the world, bringing solace to the afflicted • her passage through human grief, hope, and resilience • and finally her return to the divine sphere, now transformed by compassion Each verse of the hymn becomes a chapter in a sacred journey, blending Corsican tradition with universal spiritual imagery. The music — a neo-classical reinterpretation with requiem undertones — amplifies the sense of ritual, transcendence, and timelessness.
How we built it
Generative AI imagery (Dreamina, Grok, GPT) guided by carefully sculpted prompts to build a coherent mythological universe: a neo-classical arrangement of the hymn, designed to evoke requiem textures, sacred luminosity, and cinematic scale, a narrative structure that transforms a prayer into an epic visual poem, editing and color direction to maintain continuity across cosmic, terrestrial, and metaphysical sequences
Challenges we ran into
The principal challenge was embodying the Regina herself: avoiding religious clichés, sentimental depictions, or familiar iconography, maintaining reverence while exploring imaginative freedom, respecting a hymn with immense cultural weight in Corsica, creating a journey from a text that is not originally narrative, weaving sacred and profane seamlessly, as the song itself does in a way. Another difficulty was keeping the imagery elevated, poetic, and universal — so that the Regina is both Corsican and cosmic, intimate and archetypal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of having created a fresh myth from a traditional yet powerful chant without betraying its essence. The Regina becomes a living presence — powerful, compassionate, and universal. The fusion of requiem-like music and visionary imagery gives the film a sacred intensity. I hope the clip honors Corsican heritage while opening it to the universal, myth or faith or both.
What we learned
This project taught me how far generative creation can go when guided by reverence, intuition, and cultural responsibility. I learned to navigate the fragile space between religious tradition, fantasy world-building, and personal imagination. how myth is born — not from dogma, but from emotion, symbols, and the need to give form to the sacred.
What's next for Diu vi salve Regina
This piece is part of a larger anthology blending Corsican music, storytelling, and generative imagery. I hope to integrate these works into a live concert where the Regina’s journey — along with other Corsican reimaginings — will accompany musicians on stage, merging audiovisual and performance.
