Inspiration
Plastic recycling rates are very low(9%). We wanted to make plastic recycling accessible at a community level.
What it does
Our website gets people who want to recycle plastic in contact with people who have the ability to recycle plastic at home. It also teaches people how to build plastic recycling systems at their homes.
How we built it
We used HTML to build the website, CSS to format it and JavaScript to make the website interactable.
Challenges we ran into
Working with custom map markers was a challenge because we had difficulty making the map markers move with the map.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our team members has never worked with HTML, CSS, or JavaScript before this project and they were able to teach themselves to make the website functional. Another team member is proud of learning how to work with the google maps API to make the map portion of the website functional
What we learned
We learned how to use the google maps API. How to make HTML, CSS, and JavaScript interact with each other. How to work with Bootstrap. How to use GitHub to work as a team on a project.
What's next for Distributed Recycling & Additive Manufacturing
Make the website public and monitor google forms for new members. Make the website take a zip code an corollate it to an area on google maps. Improve the back end of the website and connect databases.
