Inspiration
Helping blind people more safely navigate their environment.
What it does
Measures distances to things with Ultrasonic distance sensors, and vibrate the corresponding motors based on how far away things are.
How we built it
Attached a breadboard to a hat and mounted our sensors to the brim then wired the vibrating motors to the inside flap in the hat. Wired a #s battery to a voltage regulator to down volt to 5v to power our microcontroller.
Challenges we ran into
broken sensors. limited hardware. network code issues. learning how to properly use our multiplexing IC.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It kind of works, we had to overcome many hardware issues dealing with the poor quality of the low cost components.
What we learned
How to effectively use multiplexing to increase the I/O of our microcontroller.
What's next for Dist-Hat
Improve tuning of sensors and vibration feedback. And some components to improve noise through the circuit.
