Inspiration

As university students, we’re constantly struggling to find delicious meals that hit our health goals. Does this happen to you? 🍎

What it does

It's basically Tinder but for food/nutrition goals. dishly allows you to pick ANY category of food(s) and you'll be presented with an unlimited amount of photos/recipes that are within your wants.

For example: you can filter by culture, calories, protein, carbs, fats, allergies (exclude foods), breakfast/lunch/dinner/dessert, and any other requests in natural language or using our drop-down menu that present checkboxes. If you're feeling adventurous, you could use a pre-set filter as well!

Use the arrow keys or the buttons to "Like" or "Dislike" photos/recipes. Right to "Like", left to "Dislike." When you've looked at enough food, click the "Liked Recipes" to review the images and recipes and get ready to cook!

How we built it

Brainstorm, bounce ideas off each other/AI for an hour. Make actionable plan and divide tasks, played to strengths.
One person handled front end, one person handled back end, while the others handled brainstorming for the rest, including the video.
Frontend/backend worked in separate folders, then merged.
Debugging and UX/QOL changes.

Challenges we ran into

API keys running out of usage mid test/trouble shoot. We struggled with a very typical "AI looking" website until the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

User experience. By far, we are proud of this because of how easy it is to use. Either use the drop-down menu and simply click, or explain your goals in natural language. Either will work perfectly.

The video, too! We had a lot of fun making the video just for fun. And making our pitch. Cliche, but we're proud of having fun with this hackathon lol.

What we learned

We learned the process of making fun videos and UX libraries. We also tried agentic processes before realizing it was "doing too much." We wanted to focus on the user experience, even if it meant a less flashy/less technical product.
