Inspiration
Cooking is fun, but sometimes we struggle to find ideas or even a selection of ingredients to work with, so we build this platform as a way to offer users a weekly cooking challenge that is open-ended enough for them to express their own creativity and gather inspiration from others' take on the same challenge.
What it does
The platform gives the user a weekly theme (ingredient, food type, etc) that they are able to incorporate into their cooking. If users wish to share their creations for that week, they can make a post on the website where others' can see their cooking and they can get inspiration from others' posts as well.
How we built it
This platform was built mainly with CSS, HTML and Javascript, and Python was used (Beautiful Soup) to extract a list of ingredients that act as the weekly theme for the platform.
Challenges we ran into
As this is our first hackathon and we came in with only one and a half semesters of computer science knowledge, it was difficult for us to learn all the new languages and software.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to familiarize ourselves with Javascript, HTML, and CSS to a point that we feel comfortable submitting an actual project!
What we learned
A lot of new coding concepts specific to HTML, CSS and Javascript as well as data extraction with Beautiful Soup
What's next for DISHcovery
We hope to add more backend code to our platform that allows use to create their own profile and save their own posts. We also hope to make the webpage more dynamic in a way that the pages are more connected (code-wise) to each other
