Inspiration
In many schools, students choose careers based on marks, peer pressure, or limited awareness rather than true interests and strengths. We saw classmates confused about subject choices, streams, and future careers — especially in middle and high school. There is guidance available, but it’s often generic, late, or inaccessible.
Disha was inspired by the need for early, personalized, and intelligent career guidance that helps every student discover their direction with confidence.
What it does
Disha is an AI-powered career guidance platform designed for school students (Classes 6–12). It: Analyzes academic performance Considers skills, interests, and co-curricular activities Incorporates teacher observations Identifies student strengths and potential Based on this, Disha provides: Personalized career path suggestions Recommended subjects and streams Skill development guidance Future-ready career insights (including emerging fields) Instead of one-size-fits-all advice, every student receives a unique career roadmap.
How we built it
We combined AI intelligence with structured student profiling: Frontend: Student-friendly interface for entering academic data, interests, and activities AI Layer: Gemini-based analysis to interpret student profiles and map them to suitable careers Logic System: Career pathways mapped to subjects, skills, and future opportunities Personalization Engine: Generates tailored recommendations, not generic lists The system is designed to be scalable, low-cost, and usable even in schools with limited counseling resources.
Challenges we ran into
Converting qualitative traits (like creativity or leadership) into structured inputs Avoiding bias toward only popular careers (doctor/engineer) Designing outputs that are encouraging, not discouraging Making recommendations age-appropriate for younger students Balancing AI creativity with reliable career mapping
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a system that treats each student as unique, not a percentage score Created career suggestions that include modern and emerging fields Ensured guidance is positive and growth-focused, not limiting Designed a solution that could support schools without full-time counselors
What we learned
Career guidance is not just about marks — personality, interests, and environment matter equally Students feel more confident when advice is explained, not just listed AI can be a powerful support tool for educators, not a replacement Early exposure to options helps students make better long-term decisions
