Inspiration

Our app was born from a simple idea, to help you uncover new places based on where you've been. Imagine a world where every journey sparks a new adventure. We realized that often, we stick to familiar spots and miss out on amazing places nearby. Our app breaks that cycle by suggesting new destinations tailored to your past travels.

Moreover, our realization dawned when we noticed the absence of this feature on google maps, propelling us to create an innovative solution.

What it does

It's a personal gateway to new adventures. It's designed to analyze your past travel locations and preferences, then handcraft personalized place recommendations just for you. Log in, share your past locations, and let the magic unfold. Once you've added your travel history, the app transforms into your personal guide, revealing places akin to your favorite spots. Say goodbye to the ordinary.

How we built it

Beginning with Figma, we meticulously designed the app interface, ensuring a user-friendly layout. Additionally, we dedicated time to create a distinctive logo of our app. Utilizing Flutter, we transformed the designs into a functional app, prioritizing seamless navigation and usability. Firebase integration facilitated user logins and profile creation. We also used google cloud Places API. The foundational role of google cloud Places API in our app is pivotal, as it powers the curated suggestions of new destinations based on users past travels.

Challenges we ran into

During the creation of our app, we encountered several challenges that influenced our development process. One of the major hurdles was the restricted timeframe. Our project had to be completed within a short duration, which placed considerable pressure on our team.

Participating in the hackathon introduced us to a different pace of work unfamiliar to the team. Another obstacle stemmed from timezone differences, leading to misunderstandings regarding deadlines and communication within the hackathon framework.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Discoverate stands proudly as a testament to our teams hard work and creativity. It started as an idea and blossomed into a fully-fledged app. We are also proud of our design we created for our app, with its cute color scheme and overall functionality.

What we learned

Our journey with Discoverate taught us a great deal. Firstly, trying app development in a limited timeframe was eye-opening. We learned to streamline our process and prioritize tasks efficiently to meet deadlines. Additionally, the hackathon experience highlighted the importance of effective teamwork amidst time zones and short deadlines.

What's next for Discoverate

Moving forward, our focus for Discoverate revolves around enhancing user customization in place suggestions. We aim to delve deeper into tailoring better recommendations based on individual preferences. We also want to improve the apps functionality. Furthermore, we consider the possibility of publishing the app to a wider audience.
