Inspiration: The Palace of Fine Arts was designed by Bernard Maybeck and originally built in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition to exhibit works of art and bring to life San Francisco’s civic leaders’ vision of showcasing that San Francisco rebuilt could be an international city. The purpose of the Palace of Fine Arts and Maybeck’s style of letting the landscape enhance the architecture rather than subdue it, makes it the perfect place for DEZEN to showcase our commitment to being a circular and phygital brand. The rotunda is symbolic of creating closed loop systems that continuously rebuilds itself rather than the typical linear systems used for most consumer and fashion goods today that end in waste and contribute significantly to the climate crisis.

As a brand located in San Francisco, at the center of technology and fighting climate change nestled between the natural beauty that surrounds this beautiful city, the Palace of Fine arts represents how we must balance both modern technology with mother nature. This is our mission at DEZEN to both embrace the future while honoring the planet we all live on. It is with great pleasure to create our first augmented reality experience at the Palace of Fine Arts.

What it does: Walking through the Palace of Fine Arts following our AR experience showcases how DEZEN, one of the first phygital brands, uses Augmented Reality to introduce the public to new concepts of consuming from a circular perspective and to rethink how fashion is made, used and shared. As a phygital brand we want to change the way the world wears fashion accessories.

how you built it: We created our assets and used mix with Adobe Aero's standart assets to create the AR experience with connecting the Google geospatial anchoring.

challenges we ran into: As we discovered this hackathon only a week ago we had very little time to build our project. Aside from the late discovery it also took a great amount of time to build the experience in the Google Geo Spatial Software as well as build the assets for our content. And not being able to adjust in detailed way the assets within the Adobe Aero Software proved to be challenging as we had to leave the software and make changes in other programs and then pull the assets back into Adobe to create the look and feel we desired.

Accomplishments we’re proud of: We are extremely proud in such a short amount of time we were able to build this AR experience as this has been one of our goals. The contest propelled us to work on this sooner and we’re happy we now have a piece we can showcase. Now we can connect out metaverse showroom to AR experience to IRL!

what we learned: As mentioned above what we learned is we do have to allocate enough time for building the experience conceptually and digital assets. It was also our first time using both the Google Geo Spatial Software and Adobe’s Augmented Reality software so to learn two new programs and have a presentable product at the end was satisfying!

What’s Next for Discover DEZEN: Our goal is to continue expanding on sharing information about our brand as well as sustainability and the circular economy. We hope to use this to better educate the public on how powerful their consumer choices are in making a difference on climate change. We hope to also build an outdoor metaverse using these two new products. Additionally, we would like the public to be able to try on and use our products while they are on our project. While they are visiting a historic San Francisco site they can wear fashionable digital accessories and take a picture while never depleting any virgin material. We hope to introduce the public to the concept of building a hybrid wardrobe of a mix of digital fashion and high-quality circular designs as an alternative to the current fashion items which on average is worn seven times and contributes to being one of the largest polluters and waste generators on the planet.
