Discover by Dish

Inspiration

Our inspiration for Discover by Dish stemmed from the frustration of having to sift through multiple restaurant menus on Google Maps when searching for a specific dish. With our platform, you can cut out the middleman and get a comprehensive list of every dish that matches your keyword, saving you time and hassle.

What it does

Discover by Dish compiles a list of all dishes in the nearby vicinity that contain descriptions matching your keyword.

How we built it

To create Discover by Dish, we first compiled a dataset of dishes from local Hamilton restaurants and parsed it into subsets based on popular keywords. Our webpage was facilitated by Convex, which simplified the development process, and we utilized React for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

During the development process, we faced several challenges due to limited knowledge of HTML and front-end development, but with hard work and dedication, we were able to create a tool that works for the surrounding Colgate area.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite our lack of experience in hackathons and front-end development, our team of new developers successfully created a working app for Discover by Dish. Additionally, our team had limited knowledge of Convex technology, making our product deployment even more impressive. We are proud of our achievements despite our lack of experience.

What we learned

Through the development process of Discover by Dish, we gained knowledge in front-end development, acquired new programming languages like HTML and React, and learned how to effectively utilize coding resources such as Convex for increased efficiency.

What's next for Discover by Dish

Currently, Discover by Dish is limited to the greater Hamilton, New York area and allows for a small number of keyword inputs. However, we aim to expand our platform to a wider area, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the excitement of discovering new dishes.
