Inspiration

I am taking a summer school this July, we have an assignment about analyzing a disease. While I was researching for information about this disease, I learnt how serious this disorder is and people should be more aware of this disease. So I want to build a website not only for this assignment but also to educate people about atherosclerosis.

What it does

I analyzed the disease in six parts. First, there will be a home page: for basic instructions about the website, label all the chapters, and let people directly search for what they want to know. Second, if you click on the buttons, it will take you to different pages and provide more specific details about one aspect of this disease. There will be an About Disease page to introduce some basic concepts about this disease, what are the potential effects of this disease, and what are the risk factors of it. Include a video that is a model of how this disease is formed, more direct and intuitive. An Affect page that talks about the complications of this disease and a video about how this disease can produce a heart attack. A Diagnostic Technology page which provides several practical diagnostic technologies that can be used to detect this disease, also includes a video that introduces more specifics about one diagnostic technology. A Treatment page that introduces the available treatments from three aspects—medicine, sugary, and changing lifestyle. An Interrogation page that talks about the procedure of an appointment with the doctor about this disease which can be more effective for both patients and doctors. Last, a Prevention page which is an additional aspect that gives some suggestions to the readers that help prevent them from this disease.

How we built it

I first started as front-end coding to build the prototype of my website. Then I added more details to it and worked on some style editing. Since I am a beginner in coding, I am doing all these things while still learning online and learnt from workshops. I had less time to code and was unable to finish everything, but I did not give up, I tried what I could do to make the website more feasible. Last, I had to insert the content of this disease into the buttons, but that content was also created by myself.

Challenges we ran into

The most challenging part is that I am working on my own. So there will be no probability for me to finish all I want to do in one day, so I have to find another method to at least make this website more educational. So I had to use other ways instead of coding to demonstrate what I wanted to make for people to understand what am I doing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I did not give up and I can not believe I made at least something out on my own. This is a very encouraging experience and gives me more confidence to keep coding.

What we learned

I learnt a lot of practical skills about how to make front-end--since I only learnt back-end coding before. Also, the workshops were very educative and offered lots of valuable opportunities.

What's next for Discover Atherosclerosis

I will keep finishing it and make it more stylish and can be searched on Google to educate more people.
