Inspiration
IT enthusiasts, beginners inspired us to build our bot. As we assume that lack of motivation to continue learning among those who just start trying to code, or are curious to try is one of the biggest problems. As a solution for it we would like to propose a discord bot that will make this experience more fun, easy and provide an excellent feeling of accomplished challenges. That will help our users to stay motivated and continue to grow.
What it does
Our product is Discord bot, which will give the opportunity to accept and solve daily published challenges with coding tasks in different levels on different channels.
How we built it
We started from generating the ideas, we pointed out 23 of them. Afterword we critically evaluated them, some of our ideas got pointed out, some of them were combined and after that when 7 of them we voted and chose the one that got more votes among our team members. When the main idea was chosen we discussed it in more details, looked at it from different angles and defined our end user. We described this persona, her needs and challenges. Our persona is Felicia, a 30 years old woman with no IT experience, who is willing to change her career path, but she is struggling with fear and lack of motivation to go into IT. We decided to come out with a solution that will help her to feel more confident in coding, Discord bot "ChallengeIT" that will turn learning experience into a fun game that does not consider mach time each day. "ChallengeIT" gently introduces coding as an easy way of slowing problems, that can be learned through real cases.
Challenges we ran into
Using python for the first time
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For all our team members it was the first hackathon ever and we are proud of competing in it.
What we learned
We had the opportunity to practice pitching skills while we chose the best idea to build as our product. We learned how to work in a strict time frame, how to plan and divide tasks among team members dependent on their skills. We decided to challenge ourselves and use the python language for the coding part, regardless we did use another coding language before the hackathon.
What's next for Discord bot later
We have multiple ideas how "ChallengeIT" can grow, and become a multifunctional buddy that sends you IT related memes, cheers you up and provides statistics of your progress.
