Inspiration
Discón Zombión is a satirical horror-music series that blends undead glam with genre-bending spectacle. Episode 4 marks the first departure from disco, diving into early 1980s metal. What began as a one-off genre experiment evolved into a multi-episode arc exploring post-disco chaos, nostalgia, and sonic decay. Brutal, funny, and loud — this episode sets the tone for future mutations.
What it does
The episode stages a surreal variety show hosted by two undead headbangers. It’s a rhythmic collision of glam metal tropes, horror absurdity, and chopped sonic violence. A single joke punctuates the brutality, anchoring the satire in something human — or undead. The episode closes with a parody commercial for a fictional 1980s headbanger product — absurd, era-specific, and perfectly cursed.
How we built it
We used OpenArt AI and Runway AI to generate modular scenes with runtime-safe pacing and visual consistency. The workflow relied on descriptive prompting and organic sequencing — no storyboards, just instinct. Unexpected outputs were often retained for their creative dissonance. The dialogue is delivered in Mexican Spanish, using slang and speech patterns typical of 1980s headbanger culture. Other episodes in the series experiment with different languages, but Spanish remains the dominant voice.
Challenges we ran into
Shifting genres introduced new pacing and fidelity challenges. Some prompts failed outright, while others produced hallucinations that were too good to discard. Runtime budgeting and platform pivots were essential.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully broke the disco mold and opened the series to new sonic and visual territories. The genre shift feels earned, not forced — and the undead headbangers are now part of the Discón Zombión mythology. The use of era-specific slang adds a layer of cultural authenticity and comedic timing. This video is well liked by fans of 1980s heavy metal, especially in Spain, Argentina and Mexico.
What we learned
Genre is a tool, not a boundary. Organic sequencing leads to richer creative outcomes. And sometimes, the worst outputs are the most interesting — if you know how to use them. Language is a rhythm too — and slang is its punchline.
What's next for Discón Zombión
With 10 episodes now complete, the series will continue evolving across genres and languages. Future episodes will explore other genres and languages. The next mutation is already rotting in the timeline. We don’t switch genres. We exhume them.
