💡 Inspiration

Every patient goes home. Not every patient goes home ready. Discharge instructions arrive as a stack of dense clinical prose at the exact moment a person is most exhausted and overwhelmed. The result? Medications get missed, warning signs go unrecognized, and caregivers are handed massive responsibility with zero tools. Nobody checks in until something goes wrong—and by then, the patient is often readmitted.

⚙️ What it does

Discharge Buddy is a consumer-facing, voice-first recovery tracker that turns unstructured medical paperwork into an interactive, personalized care plan. Instead of dispensing generic health advice, it provides highly specific monitoring by cross-referencing a patient's spoken daily updates directly against their unique discharge instructions.

🏗️ How it works

The application guides patients and caregivers through three core moves:

• 1. Ingest: A caregiver simply pastes or photographs the hospital discharge summary. AI instantly extracts the hidden structure: medications (with doses, frequencies, and purposes), appointments, warning signs mapped to required actions, and emergency contacts. This data is returned as an editable form, ensuring human-in-the-loop review before anything is saved.
• 2. Understand: The app offers one unified care plan with two distinct views, controlled by a role toggle.
• Caregiver View: Displays full clinical detail, tap-to-dial emergency contacts, and complete check-in history.

• Patient View: A calming, simplified interface showing only what to take and when, the very next appointment, and a basic list of warning signs. A "Read Aloud" button speaks the plan at a deliberate, slow pace for those who struggle with small text.

• 3. Check In: The patient taps a single button and speaks naturally. Live transcription streams their words to the screen. The app analyzes this transcript strictly against the patient's own care plan and returns a clear verdict: On Track, Mild Concern, or Needs Attention, complete with plain-language flags. If urgent, a "Call 911" panel automatically surfaces.

🚀 How we're different

Incumbents typically sell rigid B2B software to health systems that rely on generic, hospital-configured SMS messages. Discharge Buddy flips this model: it is completely self-serve, document-ingesting, consumer-facing, and voice-first by design.
