Inspiration
Our inspiration was coming up with a problem to solve as well as learning something new. We all wanted to do something with VR and also wanted to help other people who might be in high risk and are unaware of how to evacuate a flood and also what the proper procedure for flood evacuation is.
What it does
Our simulation allows users to experience going through a natural disaster and practice how to correctly respond. They can interact with objects, move around, climb ladders, and use a user interface.
How we built it
We built this project in Unity, using 3d models and c# scripts and many different assets we found online. We worked together as a team to divide the project up and work on the moving parts individually, after individually doing our own thing.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into was figuring out how to use Unity and learning about how to develop in VR. Everything we worked on was new for all four of us, providing an extra challenge and something we had to overcome as a team.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A few accomplishments we are proud of were overcoming the difficulty of using Unity for the first time, and being able to divide the problems up as a team to solve in a timely fashion. It took a lot to come up with ideas that would work with both unity and VR, but we were able to make something that runs and accomplishes something.
What we learned
We learned how to solve problems as a group and brainstorm together to accomplish a big task. We combined many elements of the digital world including coding, modeling, designing, and virtual reality to develop a project we can be proud of.
What's next for Disaster Simulator
We hope to continue to work on this project in the future to incorporate many elements we were unable to put in this project. I hope we can make something out of this that we can show to future potential employers.
