Inspiration
We originally started our process with a problem-based approach. We made a bug list and chose to solve one of the problems on that list. The one we decided to go with was how to better prepare for natural disasters ocurring unexpectedly. We found this very relevant especially since the 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria that happened less than a week ago.
What it does
Takes the data from disasters datasets, and creates a visualization for you to evaluate if you are in a high or low risk of a natural disaster depending on your country. Also the web gives you info and connects you with other people.
How we built it
Got the datasets and grouped them, cleaned them and analyze them using SQL. After that it was integrated into Tableau where it was further processed and created a geo visualization showing your risk profile
Challenges we ran into
getting the data, scoping the project, working with different software, trying for the first time vix and not knowing how it would integrate with other platforms
Accomplishments that we're proud of
manage to overcome most of the difficulties and finish a version.
What we learned
new tools, software, coding possibilites and how to think and work in a project
What's next for Disaster Evaluation
integrate ML and a python sever to integrate it, also explore more possibilites with Javscript. A version 2.0 with better data and mobile responsive.
