What's next for Disaster Compass
We initially got the inspiration for my project solution from a video game we play - “Fortnite” in Fortnite players are dropped on an island and forced to acquire loot and fight other players in order to become the last player or team standing. Within the game lies a storm system( a storm circle) that pressures players into a smaller and smaller area until a player/team wins. In higher ranks and more competitive games, players must learn to find the “safest route” possible in order to avoid enemy fire and find high ground/vantage points within the zone in order to gain the advantage over other players and ultimately become the last player standing. Whilst developing we were inspired by this system, and so my brother and I began working towards creating a web application that helps users within natural disasters find the best possible evacuation paths. Similar to fortnite, our application helps users not only get to safety, but it also helps users stuck in natural disasters get out of dangerous situations. This is done in our app where we developed a system where the application acquires the users location via manual input or location tracking services, in order to accurately pinpoint user locations. Once the system has acquired user location, the application utilizes various apis such as map route data, and live weather data to direct users to best suitable shelter in correspondence to certain natural disaster. For recovery, our application enables sos signaling, and volunteer and help requested system which enables those i need to seek out relief from nearby volunteers. Challenges we ran into were finding free apis(Weather api, map routing api, and map apis) to intergrate into our app effectively. Accomplishments were were proud of is that we were able to develop system that is able to view geography of area(pulled data from api) in order to determine safe shelt
