Inspiration

Disasters strike without warning, leaving millions in urgent need of aid. Yet, traditional relief efforts are plagued by inefficiencies—slow fund distribution, lack of transparency, and misallocation of resources. Witnessing the struggles of disaster victims, I envisioned DirectAid, a Web3 AI-powered digital wallet that ensures instant, transparent, and personalized disaster relief. By leveraging blockchain technology for traceability and AI-driven need analysis, I sought to revolutionize aid distribution—eliminating delays, minimizing fraud, and making sure relief reaches those who need it most.

What it does

DirectAid is a disaster relief platform that enables:

  • Instant Aid Disbursement – Electroneum’s ultra-fast, low-cost blockchain ensures rapid fund transfers.
  • Blockchain-Powered Transparency – Every transaction is traceable, giving governments, NGOs, and donors full visibility into fund allocation.

How I built it

  • Blockchain Integration – I used the Electroneum blockchain for its fast, low-fee transactions and built smart contracts for automated fund disbursement.
  • Scalable UI/UX – Designed a mobile-first interface with an intuitive AI-assisted relief request system, making it accessible to disaster survivors.

Challenges I ran into

  • Balancing Privacy & Transparency – Ensuring aid transactions were public and auditable while keeping recipient identities secure was a key challenge.

Accomplishments that i'm proud of

  • Near-Instant Relief Fund Distribution – Reduced fund delivery time from days/weeks to seconds, ensuring rapid assistance to disaster victims.

What I learned

  • Blockchain Can Revolutionize Humanitarian Aid – Electroneum’s speed and low costs make it ideal for real-world relief applications.
  • User-Centric Design is Critical – Simplifying identity verification and aid request processes ensures adoption by those in urgent need.
  • Cross-Sector Collaboration is Key – Working with NGOs, local governments, and tech partners is essential for real-world impact.

What's next for DirectAid

  • Expanding to More Disaster-Prone Regions – Partnering with global relief agencies to deploy DirectAid in more locations.
  • Integrating personalized aid matching with transparent blockchain transactions.
  • Gamification & Community Engagement – Introducing reward incentives for donors who contribute to relief efforts.
  • Digital Identity Verification – Ensures secure, fraud-resistant disbursements via decentralized IDs (DIDs) and biometric authentication.
  • AI-Powered Needs Assessment – Uses AI to analyze disaster severity, location, and family needs to allocate aid efficiently. Enhancing machine learning models to improve real-time disaster response.
  • Offline Payment Support – Survivors can access aid even without an internet connection via NFC & SMS-based wallet functionality.
