DinoBot

Inspiration

It is true that inspiration is the first step to success. We are a group of beginners to programming. Seeing people make amazing projects got us to pull of this event. Our nervousness is also seen in the video, while recording huhh!. However we would like to thank the hosts to keep us engaged and motivate us throughout and making this first event a lot of fun. We would like to thank MLH and CapitalOne for hosting the web scraping event which helped us to get data about dinos in our project. We weren't completely successful, But we did get along with it

What it does

This Bot is completely made for the dino lovers, It does a lot of stuff

It shows random facts to the users on typing $Fact to the user
It also allowsthe user to add new facts to our database by using $New command
It shows some cool Gifs from tenor and also allows to find custom Gifs
It has the ability to show some amazing videos of dinosaurs.
And then it has a short but cool Dino Game !!

How we built it

We built the discord bot using Node Js and javascript. Scraped the web using python for the data of dinosaurs. The Node-fetch Allowed us to fetch GIF from tenor API. We used embed.js to embed cards.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of challenges being rookies we learnt ES7+ javascript , then learnt stuff regarding discord.js and embed.js and a lottt about servers and backend with node js all in less than 24 hours. The intro to python hosted by CapitalOne and MLH allowed us to scrape web and get all dino names. But we couldnt import it to node js backend SAD!!... But we will do that very soon
