Inspiration
A teammate's passion towards paleontology was the main drive for this project. The team wanted to refine a current existing database, that is overwhelming. We wanted to simplify very complex data for an average user.
What it does
The website shows visual data obtained from the paleo database of dinosaurs discovered around the world. A search bar can be used to input distance in miles, to display dinosaurs discovered within range.
How we built it
The application was made in a combination node.js, css, html, javascript, and a database in format of Json pulled out of an API.
Challenges we ran into
As a team, we all had very minimal collaborative experience in web development. Each member learned a new language program throughout this challenge. Node.js, heroku, ajax, pug, and javascript were all utilized in 24 hours, with basic knowledge of the tools and limited time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was a true accomplishment to develop a website with js, express, pug, and bootstrap. As a team, we learned a lot from the workshops, and were able to teach each other new insights and knowledge.
What we learned
Each member learned a new skill, such as basic web development, data analysis, and the use of API's.
What's next for Dino Love
If given more time, we will refine our search algorithm and processing speed. In addition, including graphs, interactive maps, and clickable filters for the dataset.
