Inspiration
"When creating our game for RowdyHacks 2024, we drew inspiration from the timeless 2d Adventures, such as Zelda and Pokemon, and combined it with our fascination for dinosaurs. Imagine exploring ancient ruins, solving puzzles, and battling prehistoric creatures in a fantasy world, but with a Jurassic twist. Our love for both classic gaming and prehistoric history fueled our creativity, resulting in a thrilling experience that merges the best of both worlds."
What it does
Our program is a 2d top-down game set in the "rowdy"-period, where you are able to load into the main menu and choose to start the game, where your main objective is to eliminate all the hostile Dinos.
How we built it
Our project was built completely in Python, heavily utilizing the pygame library to incorporate all aspects of the game, from the graphics and sprites, to the player movement and environment interactions.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main issues we ran into was getting a dedicated menu to pop up when we run into a dinosaur and allowing us to update values for dinosaur health and status.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our proudest accomplishments is being able to create borders around the map that you aren't walk through, a usable main menu with music, and spawning random enemy entities around the map
What we learned
We learned that debugging is an essential part of the game creation process, and that not all ideas we brainstorm for the game can be fully incorporated in a short time frame.
What's next for Dino Game
The next goal for our game is to find a way to fully incorporate the fighting menu for character and enemies with updating health status.
